The word mark REMICH as a seat letter

On ordinary benches in urban areas people sit next to each other. It is difficult to have a conversation between 3 or 4 sitters. The city marketing of Remich wanted a different form, where the visitors of the Esplanade can sit vis-à-vis and talk in small groups. They were not looking for an "off-the-shelf" solution, but for individual furniture that would fit the identity of the city.

The creative request from Luxembourg for unusual street furniture inspired the sign manufacturer meng in Birkenfeld. Meng's business is all about large letters. So when Rainer Meng presented the idea of the "ownable" word mark, the solution was more or less obvious.

Enthusiastically, the design was taken up and further developed by the board of aldermen and the mayor. It quickly became clear that the seat had to be made of local oak. The natural material does not get hot in the summer and is also less cold than metal, plastic or stone in the cooler seasons. City marketing recognized that the color concept of the city's CI could be excellently reflected on the frames. Gray as the base tone of the letters and yellow, blue as well as green as accent colors on the left sides.

In order to be able to "own" REMICH comfortably, the width and height were first tested on a model. This resulted in a letter width of 2 m and a seat height of 45 cm. The stainless steel feet are set back so far that they are not noticeable. The meng team is used to working with unusual combinations of materials. Thus, all handicraft work of aluminum for the frames and durable construction material, of wood for the visible surfaces as well as of stainless steel for the feet could be carried out in our own fabrication on CNC-controlled equipment. In the design department, all parts had previously been developed as 3D models. Experienced craftsmen from meng assembled the lettering and put the finishing touches on it.

In Remich, the new (landmark) sign has been enthusiastically taken possession of. The city's leaders are considering installing an additional upright version. The many selfies that young people send around the world from here are already proving to be an enormous marketing success.
